More than a standard screen made slightly smaller or larger
A bespoke shower screen is designed around the actual bathroom, rather than asking the bathroom to fit a catalogue product. The glass shape, door position, fixed panels, hardware, support, access and practical water control are considered together.
Bespoke glass may be needed because the walls are out of plumb, the room is narrow, the ceiling slopes, the shower sits within an attic conversion or the customer wants a cleaner and more individual design than a standard enclosure can provide.
It is not always necessary. If a suitable branded or standard shower screen will give the right result, we will say so and direct the project towards the simpler option.
A glass screen, door or enclosure whose dimensions, shape, hardware and installation method are planned as one system around the completed shower area and the way the customer needs it to work.
Full project management or a clearly defined individual service
The fully managed route provides the strongest continuity and accountability. Survey-only, supply-only and installation-only remain available where the customer, designer or bathroom professional wants to retain responsibility for other parts of the project.

A non-committal professional service for customers who want accurate measurements, a CAD drawing and component recommendations before deciding who will supply or install the glass.

The project is divided into clear stages so the customer understands what is being proposed before paying for the final survey and what is being manufactured before the glass is ordered.

Agree the direction
The paid survey is arranged only once the customer is comfortable with the concept and likely cost.
Professional survey

Working CAD drawing
SSI prepares the full drawing that the customer approves and the glass manufacturer builds from.
Materials ordered
The glass and material costs are paid before the approved design is released for manufacture.
Installation
The glass is checked, handled, fitted, aligned and sealed using the approved hardware arrangement.
Handover and guarantee
Operation, cleaning, maintenance and curing time are explained before workmanship cover begins.
Measured from the finished surfaces and approved before manufacture
Final manufacturing measurements are taken once the surfaces that define the glass opening are complete. This prevents the dimensions being based on an unfinished wall, loose tray, missing stone cap or floor level that later changes.

Two drawings serve different purposes
The initial concept explains the likely design and budget. The later working CAD drawing contains the measured specification, is approved by the responsible person and is the document used by the glass manufacturer.
Early advice can prevent the bathroom being built around the wrong screen
We can begin after the bathroom is complete, but the design stage provides the greatest opportunity to improve the final result. Small changes to the tray, opening, half wall or shower-head position can make a substantial difference to door movement, support and splash control.
Tray or shower-floor position
The glass line should relate properly to the tray, drain and surrounding walls.
Door direction and clearance
Basins, toilets, radiators, slopes and narrow walkways affect how a door can open.
Half walls and support
The wall height, cap, fixing structure and intended glass arrangement should be planned together.
Shower-head position
Water direction influences door gaps, panel length, seals and the likely need for a threshold.
Floor falls and drainage
A floor falling away from the drain can create a problem that glass alone cannot correct.
Access for the finished glass
Staircases, turns, door openings and lifting routes are considered before large panels are ordered.
The specification is selected as a complete system
Glass thickness, panel size, hinge capacity, channels, clamps, support, machining and finish must all remain within the selected component manufacturer’s stated tolerances. Thicker glass is not automatically better, and thinner glass is not automatically weaker when correctly specified for the intended design.

Shaped glass
Sloping tops, notches, angled returns, half-wall arrangements and complex polygon or pentagon designs.
Not currently offered
Curved glass, decorative grid systems and fluted or reeded glass are not currently part of the SSI range.

Support is a design decision, not an optional afterthought
Panels over approximately 900mm are normally assessed for additional support when they rely mainly on wall and floor channels. The final decision depends on glass dimensions, thickness, fixing conditions and the limitations of the selected component system.
Straight support arm
A direct and reliable way to restrain a larger fixed panel where the layout allows.
Ninety-degree wall brace
A cleaner alternative where a side wall provides the correct structure and position.
Ceiling clamp
Useful in selected full-height or near-ceiling designs where the structure and geometry are suitable.
Ninety-degree wall clamp
Can provide discreet restraint where a return wall or adjacent surface is available.
Channels and clamps
Wall and floor channels or point clamps may be combined according to appearance and support needs.
Revised panel proportions
Sometimes altering the panel size or arrangement is better than forcing unsuitable hardware into the design.
Bespoke and frameless do not mean completely watertight
Bespoke shower glass is designed to provide practical splash control for the agreed layout. Frameless hinges, door clearances, panel gaps and seals do not create a completely sealed enclosure, and it would be misleading to promise otherwise.
Shower-head direction
Water aimed towards a hinge gap, door edge or opening increases the likelihood of escape.
Thresholds and water bars
These are assessed during survey where they would improve practical water control.
Floor falls
A floor falling away from the drain may require remedial work because glass cannot redirect the floor.
Small shower cubicles
Water is concentrated in a tight area, so compact cubicles need more careful sealing and layout decisions.
Door and hinge gaps
Frameless doors need working clearances. Seals can improve control but cannot remove every gap.

These guide ranges include glass, standard hardware and professional installation. They are not fixed tariffs. Glass size, thickness, machining, support, hardware finish, access and installation complexity determine the final quotation.

What happens after the working drawing is approved?
Glass and material costs are paid before the approved working drawing is released for manufacture. Installation labour is paid when the fitting work is complete.
Manufacturing instruction
The approved CAD drawing defines dimensions, shapes, holes, notches and hardware positions.
Quality control
Glass that is scratched, incorrectly processed or miscut is replaced rather than installed to protect a date.
Replacement without extra cost
Where SSI supplies the glass, a scratched or miscut panel is replaced without additional cost.
Access assessment
Staircases, landings, doorways, turns and carrying routes are assessed before large glass is ordered.
Two-person installation
Larger or heavier panels are handled and installed by two people where required.
Fixed quotation
After survey and approved specification, the quotation remains fixed unless the agreed scope changes.
When SSI supplies the package, SSI accepts responsibility for it
Glass processors and component manufacturers may provide separate product warranties, and some glass guarantees effectively end at delivery. Where SSI has surveyed, specified, supplied and installed the agreed project, the customer deals with SSI rather than being left to resolve an issue between separate businesses.
The project is not finished when the glass is standing upright
The screen must be positioned, secured, adjusted, sealed and handed over correctly. The customer should understand how the doors, seals, gaskets and thresholds work before the shower is used.
Bathroom protection
The work area and relevant finished surfaces are protected before drilling and glass handling.
Glass and component check
Panels, holes, notches, edges, fittings and finishes are checked against the approved design.
Fitting and adjustment
Channels, hinges, clamps, braces, seals and doors are aligned for the intended operation.
Correct sealing
Silicone and water-control details are applied without blocking intended drainage paths.
Cleaning and operation
The customer is shown how the door works, how to clean the glass and what maintenance is required.
Twenty-four-hour cure time
The shower should normally remain unused for 24 hours after installation.
Removal and disposal can be added to the bespoke project
The old screen can be removed for an agreed additional cost. We remove accessible silicone and clean the fitting area before the new installation, but removal can expose conditions hidden behind the original profiles.
Old fixing holes
Existing holes may remain visible where the new hardware follows a different line.
Loose tiles or finishes
Pre-existing loose tiles or unstable finishes can appear when old profiles are removed.
Silicone staining
Old silicone is removed where accessible, but staining may remain in porous or aged finishes.
Hidden damage
SSI cannot accept responsibility for pre-existing damage that was not visible before removal.

What makes a shower screen bespoke?
A bespoke screen is designed around the actual bathroom. Its dimensions, glass shape, door position, fixed panels, hardware, support and installation method are specified together rather than selected solely from a standard product size.
Do I need to pay for a survey before receiving design advice?
No. We first review photographs, plans and approximate dimensions, then provide a simple preliminary CAD concept, recommended component route and approximate price. The paid survey is arranged only after the customer agrees with that direction.
How much does a professional bespoke survey cost?
A bespoke survey is normally approximately £120–£150. It includes travel, professional measurement, laser-level checks, CAD working information and recommended glass and components. It is non-committal and may be used with another supplier.
When can final manufacturing measurements be taken?
The surfaces defining the glass opening must be complete. This normally means the tray or bath is fixed, tiles or panels and grouting are finished, half walls and stone caps are installed and final aperture edges and floor levels are established.
Will I approve the glass before it is manufactured?
Yes. After survey, SSI prepares the detailed working CAD drawing. The responsible person approves it before ordering, and the glass manufacturer uses that approved drawing to produce the panels.
Does every bespoke shower screen use 10mm glass?
No. Ten-millimetre glass is a common starting point because it works with a broad range of components, but the glass may be thinner or thicker where appropriate. The final thickness must remain compatible with the selected hardware and manufacturer tolerances.
Do I always need a visible support arm?
Not always. Alternatives may include a ninety-degree wall brace, ceiling clamp, wall clamp, channels or revised panel proportions. Larger glass may still require an appropriate form of restraint even where a straight support arm is avoided.
Will a bespoke frameless screen be completely watertight?
It is designed for practical splash control, but frameless doors, hinge gaps and working clearances do not create a completely sealed enclosure. Shower-head position, thresholds, seals, floor falls and use all affect water performance.
How long does a bespoke shower screen take?
Most projects are installed approximately three to four weeks after final survey, working-drawing approval and payment for glass and materials. Specialist components, finishes or replacement of glass rejected at quality control can extend the timescale.
What happens if SSI-supplied glass is scratched or made incorrectly?
Where SSI supplies the glass, a scratched, incorrectly processed or miscut panel is replaced without additional cost to the customer. It is better to replace unsuitable glass than install it merely to protect an original date.
Can you supply glass using measurements taken by someone else?
Yes, where the measurements have been taken by an experienced person and the specification is clear. However, SSI cannot accept responsibility if glass ordered from third-party dimensions does not fit the completed opening.
What guarantee is included?
SSI provides a 12-month installation-workmanship guarantee, including reasonable door and hinge adjustment where appropriate. Glass and components carry their separate manufacturer or supplier warranties.
